Hope * Healing * Wellness

Individual, Family Therapy and Parent Coaching to help encourage and facilitate better health, happiness, and fulfillment in one’s life

Services

I provide counseling for adults, adolescents, families and parents either in-person or through telehealth. I believe in a client-centered approach to therapy that focuses on utilizing your strengths and resources to heal your past, empower your present, and begin living out your values and goals.

Each person has a unique situation that requires me to listen to your story with compassion, curiosity and openness.

I use a variety of therapies depending upon your situation. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Lifespan Integration (LI), Narrative Therapy, Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), and Existential Therapies.

Throughout all of these techniques I emphasize the connection between our mind and body to bring awareness, healing, and growth.

I also provide spiritual direction and counseling on finding meaning and discovering who you are, particularly in your core relationship with God, your Creator.

For many of my individual, adult clients, Lifespan Integration Therapy is one of my main modalities. This is a gentle body-based therapeutic method that brings healing without retraumatizing. We can discuss how the use of this modality can enhance your therapy experience.

For adolescents and individuals, I recommend weekly or bi-weekly appointments. For parent coaching and family counseling we will discuss a needed plan.

About Nancy Montstream

I attended undergraduate school at the University of Washington, majoring in English Literature and Psychology. Within a year of graduation, I obtained my K-12 teaching license and began teaching at the high school level.  After 15 years of teaching both adolescents and adults, I returned to graduate school and received a MA in Education, Counseling. I worked as a high school counselor 12 years, being a counseling manager for 8 years. Within that time, I also began clinical counseling and transitioned to my private practice.  I am a licensed mental health counselor in Washington State and a National Certified Counselor through the NBCC.  I have over 16 years of counseling experience.

I have been married 36 years and have 3 adult children (2 daughters and a son), two son-in-laws and one granddaughter. As well, I have a golden doodle named Ruby and I live in the Seward Park neighborhood of Seattle.

From my teenage years I remember having great joy in helping others, particularly with emotional struggles. I knew at one point in my life, I would take the step to become a professional counselor. I greatly enjoy my work, particularly seeing growth and healing in my clients and in myself.

I love to learn new practices and theories and continue to grow my knowledge in the psychology and counseling fields.

“Nancy is a careful listener who helped me untangle some confusing and muddled feelings that I didn’t feel comfortable sharing with others, including my family.  She has a wealth of knowledge and guidance which has helped in my growth and happiness.”
